This is my long term project on the social and ethical impact of video games. Each year I visit PAX East and collect answers to ethical questions that I discuss with participants. For four years I’ve been collecting information about what makes gamers happy/unhappy in games, what they do in games that they don’t do in real life, how games have changed their lives, and what advice they might give to industry, along with other questions.
Several papers are coming out of this:
- A methodology paper (presented at ETHICOMP 2015 and published in the ACM SIGCAS newsletter)
- A paper on “feeling feels” and the emotional connections between players and games (presented at ETHICOMP 2017, to be updated and published elsewhere)
… ? to be continued.
