This an interdisciplinary project with toxicologist Paul Dargan (King’s College London), medical anthropologist Darryl Stellmach (University of Sydney), and emergency medical physician Nat Thurtle (various places, but currently Médecins Sans Frontières). We’re studying the advertisement, sales, and composition of new psychoactive substances (NPS) - particularly synthetic cannabinoids - on the Darknet.
This is a longitudinal study that has so far collected 8 months worth of data on sales and advertisement of NPSes every 2 months from drug market websites on the Darknet.
My main part in this has been the programming and data collection, as well as ethics.
We will be producing several papers from this study spanning the sales, purported composition, and other social aspects of the selling of NPSes. Further research will look at the actual composition of the drugs being sold.
