Beer
While I was in Belgium, I tried out the local beers. I thought I’d keep a bit of a list of ones I’ve tried and sort them roughly into beers I like vs. beers I don’t like. Of course this is completely subjective, and I tend to prefer the paler ales but I have grown to like darker stuff too (thanks, living in Belgium, for that! :).Now I'm in the UK, I should probably keep a list of the ales I've tried and liked, for future reference too :)
Belgian Beers I Like
- Duvel
- Cuvee des Trolls (blonde)
- Faro (lambic – dark and spicy)
- Chimay Tripel (Trappist blondeish)
- Forestinne Ambrosia (amber)
- Forestinne Mysteria (blonde)
- St Feuillien (blonde)
- Delirium tremens (blonde)
- Pecheresse (peach beer, 2.5%, the “girly” beer apparently, though lots of men drink it!)
- Rochefort Trappist (triple)
- Leffe (triple)
- La Chouffe (blonde)
- Barbar (honey beer which is quite nice, unlike the Floris series, which is gross)
- Framboizette (a locally produced Raspberry Lambic which is very tasty)
- Grimbergen everything
- Duvel (blonde)
- Gulden Draak (dark)
- Duchesse de Bourgogne (dark)
- Blanche de Namur (local blonde)
- Maes, Jupiler and Stella are all quite nice light, low-alcohol (hah, for Belgium; they're still 4-5% though) summer quenchers. I quite enjoy them.
Beers I’m So-So About
- Brugge Tripel
Belgian Beers I Don’t Like
- Leffe (blonde)
- Super des Fagnes
- Floris beers. Sorry, but they're far too sweet and not much like beer.
UK Beers I Like
- Tring: Death or Glory, Colley's Dog, Brock Bitter (?)
- Fullers: ESB is the best here, I rather like it. There was a spring ale on tap at my local, Spring Sprinter. That was pretty good too.
- Doom Bar
- Boddington's isn't bad if that's all there is.
- ... more to come when I remember to take notes! :)
